Everything was going right for Chicago for most of the first period in today’s game against Anaheim -- right up until this:

Crazy series of events, to say the least. Ryan Kesler ended up with an assist on what can only be described as an “unconventional” goal, though the bigger story is what kind of damage Niklas Hjalmarsson might’ve done with the hit; Kesler went to the bench immediately and didn’t take another shift in the period, finishing with just 5:05 TOI.

As mentioned above, the opening frame was mostly all Chicago as the ‘Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 13:30 into the contest, outshooting Anaheim 11-1 at one point. The ‘Hawks went into the first intermission leading 2-1.

Update: Kesler was out to start the second period.
