The New York Islanders lost defenseman Johnny Boychuk before the start of Friday’s contest against the Washington Capitals due to an upper-body injury. Now they’ll have to get by without blueliner Lubomir Visnovsky for the same reason, according to the team’s Twitter feed.

Visnovsky logged 11:14 minutes of ice time on Friday, but wasn’t available for the third period. He previously missed six games this season due to a back injury. The 38-year-old was also limited to 16 contests in 2013-14 because of concussion problems.

The Islanders have gotten off to a 16-6-0 start this season and an important part of that has been the team’s defensive depth. Islanders GM Garth Snow acquired Boychuk and Nick Leddy in separate trades with Boston and Chicago just before the start of the campaign and so far that’s paid off for New York.

New York’s five game winning streak came to an end with a 5-2 loss to the Capitals.
