Video: Jets’ Lowry hits Sabres’ Kaleta from behind

Patrick Kaleta

Winnipeg Jets forward Adam Lowry hit Patrick Kaleta from behind during the second period in Buffalo Wednesday night.

Lowry was assessed a five minute major for boarding and a game misconduct for the hit.

Replays:

Kaleta went to the Sabres dressing room after getting up and has not returned.

Update: Kaleta rejoined his teammates to start the third period.

Lowry, 21, is a rookie and has no prior supplemental discipline at the NHL level. However, the hit was both from behind and late so he could be hearing from NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety, Stephane Quintal.

Adding insult to injury, the Jets scored a shorthanded goal on the ensuing Sabres’ power play as Michael Frolik gave Winnipeg a 2-0 lead.

It’s been a rough start to the season for Kaleta, who missed the start of the season, after taking a shot to the face against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the preseason.

Tonight is Kaleta’s second game of the season.
