Don’t close the door on Martin Brodeur’s career just yet.

On Wednesday, the St. Louis Blues announced they’d be bringing Brodeur aboard on a tryout basis, just hours after learning Brian Elliott would be out week-to-week with a lower body injury.

Blues President/GM of Hockey Operations Doug Armstrong announced that goaltender Martin Brodeur will practice with the team starting Friday.

Armstrong: “Marty has agreed to come in and practice through early next week. We will address the media at Friday’s practice at Scottrade.”

Brodeur, 42, has been without work since leaving the Devils this summer to test free agency. The future Hall of Famer wanted to try and catch on with another club after spending all 21 years of his professional career in New Jersey, during which he became one of the greatest netminders in league history.

As for the situation in St. Louis, the Blues have placed Elliott on IR and are currently rolling with the tandem of Jake Allen and AHL call-up Jordan Binnington. Allen, 24, will assume starting duties for the time being -- his first extended look at No. 1 duties in the NHL -- while Binnington will look to make his big-league debut at some point, unless Brodeur takes the backup gig behind Allen instead.
