Can it get any worse?

Saturday was a new low for the Edmonton Oilers in this 2014-15 season. Their current losing streak hit six games. They were out of this one after just few minutes. Jonathan Toews got it started for the visiting Chicago Blackhawks, scoring a beauty less than four minutes into the first period and it fell apart from there for the Oilers.

They were once again booed off the ice. The final score: 7-1 for the Blackhawks.

Chicago scored six times on just 15 shots. The Blackhawks completed the touchdown - minus the convert - before the second period was even four minutes old. Edmonton’s goalie Ben Scrivens was yanked after giving up five goals on 13 shots. No mercy rule in the NHL.

“That’s about as long as a game as I can remember since I played or coached,” said head coach Dallas Eakins, as per Gene Principe of Sportsnet.

And so ends a five-game home stand for Edmonton. It was a nightmare. The Oilers got just one single point out of a possible 10.

The debate about whether Eakins should be fired spread like wild fire on social media as Saturday’s debacle continued.

“This is our fault as players and we’re the ones who are going to have to make up for it... This is on us,” said Taylor Hall, as per the club’s Twitter account.

“It sucks for us, it sucks for the fans and it sucks for the organization... It’s unfortunate we can’t give our fans something,” Hall added.
