Firing Dallas Eakins ‘would be so unfair,’ says Taylor Hall

Their season started with a five-game losing streak. There is a four-game losing streak sandwiched in there, too.

On Saturday, the Edmonton Oilers were crushed on home ice. The Chicago Blackhawks came in and ripped apart their Western Conference opponents by a final score of 7-1.

And now the debate about the future of head coach Dallas Eakins in Edmonton is reaching another boiling point. Saturday’s loss was the sixth straight for the Oilers and it was a debacle from start to finish.

Five of these losses came during this home stand.

“Absolutely not. I would be extremely disappointed if that happened. That would be so unfair if that was the case,” said Taylor Hall, on the subject of if the Oilers need a new head coach, to reporters in a video posted on the club’s Twitter account.

“I don’t think it is by any means. But for Dallas to take the brunt of the blame, that’s not true and wouldn’t be fair to him.”

The Oilers also find themselves occupying the bottom of the league standings, with the Buffalo Sabres. Both teams, as well as the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes, have just six wins through the first quarter of the season.

This follows yet another disappointing and tumultuous season, a 2013-14 campaign that was so hyped up with the hiring of Eakins. There was even speculation last season that he could lose his job.

There was a shot of the Oilers coming off the ice after the loss to Chicago, and players, as they were walking by the fans on their way to the dressing room, were booed vehemently.

Unhappy times in Edmonton.
