Jack Johnson scored a big goal in Columbus’ eventual shootout loss to the Boston Bruins last night, but that wasn’t the only reason Blue Jackets fans seemed to cheer a little harder when he found the net.

Earlier on Friday, the sad story of his parents allegedly making financial decisions that forced him to file for bankruptcy surfaced, stunning many in the hockey world. Fans shared their disbelief for what the blueliner went through and made a point to support him last night, as the Columbus Dispatch reports.

“I feel for him,” said fan Brandon Roberts, who donned Johnson’s No. 7 jersey and drove from Cincinnati for the game. “I hope for his sake he’s got everything together, which it seems he does now.”

Again, it was a goal that ultimately helped Columbus secure a standings point, yet you definitely get the feeling that the volume went up a little louder to lift the 27-year-old’s spirits:

Johnson has every right to feel wounded right now, yet it must be heartwarming to see such a show of support from Blue Jackets fans.
