Blackhawks’ Keith doesn’t care much for practices

Duncan Keith apparently doesn’t get tired, except at practice.

At the age of 31, the smooth-skating Keith continues to be among the National Hockey League leaders when it comes to ice time, averaging more than 25 minutes per game, which ranks him seventh in that category. No surprise, those atop the list are blue liners, the best in league like Ryan Suter and Drew Doughty.

Keith, the 2014 Norris Trophy winner, would have a ways to go before matching the workload Suter and Doughty experience with their respective teams.

But Keith, who has four goals and 11 points with Chicago so far this season, prefers the minutes he receives. And he’d rather just keep that to games, and he’s played more than 700 with the Blackhawks in his career. Practices apparently aren’t his thing.

“Personally I like it the other way around where we’re playing every other day and there’s fewer practices,” Keith told The Hockey News. “I find practices tire me out more than games. You’re on the ice longer, you’re out there more…I’d just rather play games.”
