The Columbus Blue Jackets’ struggles continued on Tuesday as their modest two-game winning streak came to an abrupt end in a 5-0 defeat to the Detroit Red Wings.

Jimmy Howard bounced back nicely after stopping just 15 of 19 shots against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday. He turned aside 28 shots tonight to earn his first shutout of the season and the 19th of his career. His rough contest versus the Canadiens aside, Howard is off to a great start and is one of the reasons Detroit has been competitive early on.

The Red Wings also showed off their depth tonight with five different players finding the back of the net. Tomas Tatar accounted for the game-winner at 10:17 of the first period.

Sergei Bobrovsky faced 40 shots in just his second game back from a finger injury, including 15 in the third period alone when the Red Wings broke the game open after establishing a 2-0 lead through 40 minutes.

Columbus has fallen to 6-11-1 in 2014-15 while Detroit is now 9-4-5. The Red Wings just started a three-game road trip that will continue in Winnipeg on Thursday.
