Troy Grosenick took the long road to the NHL, but today it proved to be a trip worth taking. The 25-year-old goaltender turned aside 45 shots to earn a shutout in his NHL debut and handed the Sharks a 2-0 victory over Carolina.
“Did we expect a shutout on 45 shots? No, but he played extremely well, and we certainly believed he could do that,” Sharks coach Todd McLellan told CSN Bay Area. “To get a young man like that to come in and steal us a game when we didn’t have our A-game … Yet, I thought as the night wore on we wanted to do it more and more for him, and we improved.
“We’re really happy for him. A pretty emotional locker room for our goaltender.”
After the contest, Grosenick spoke to CSN’s Jamie Baker in an interview you can watch below:
San Jose will play against Buffalo Tuesday night on NBCSN.
