From the Denver Post:

Denver is “very likely” to be awarded an outdoor NHL game at Coors Field next season, two NHL sources told The Denver Post.

The game, which the Avalanche would play in, is expected to be part of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. It would be the first outdoor game for Denver since the NHL started what has become a wildly successful concept.

According to the report, the game would not be the Winter Classic.

There are two outdoor games scheduled for 2014-15. The first is the Winter Classic, on Jan. 1 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. between the Capitals and Blackhawks. The second is at Levi’s Stadium, on Feb. 21, between the Sharks and Kings.

The site of the 2016 Winter Classic has yet to be determined (Beaver Stadium, anyone?), while the 2017 Winter Classic could be hosted by Toronto.

Outdoor games in Minnesota and Winnipeg are also expected at some point.

Capacity for Coors Field is around 50,000.
