Sharks put Stalock on IR, recall Grosenick (Updated)

Tough times for San Jose -- the day after an ugly 4-1 loss to Florida, the club announced that goalie Alex Stalock had been placed on injured reserve.

In a related move, Troy Grosenick has been called up from AHL Worcester.

Right now, it’s unclear what’s ailing Stalock. He was reportedly set to start last night’s game against the Panthers but was held out of the contest in favor of Antti Niemi. One has to wonder if there’s any lingering affect from Saturday’s 5-3 win in Dallas, during which he was bowled over by Stars forward Antoine Roussel:

Niemi started the game following -- a 5-2 loss to Chicago -- and will presumably run with the No. 1 gig moving forward. Grosenick, 25, is just two years removed from his days at Union College and has only 45 games of professional experience at the AHL level.

Stalock, 27, has gone 2-2-1 with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in five games this year.

The Sharks have four games left on their road trip -- Tampa Bay, Columbus, Carolina and Buffalo -- and Stalock going back to California casts real doubt that he’ll rejoin the club in time for any of the contests.
