Lundqvist takes on Pittsburgh
The New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins will meet for the first time since last year’s second-round playoff series -- in which the Rangers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to eliminate the Pens -- meaning it’ll be Pittsburgh’s first shot at Henrik Lundqvist since he slammed the door by stopping 102 of 105 shots faced over the final three games of the series.
Of course, things have changed since then.
The Penguins are on fire at the moment, riding a seven-game winning streak in which they’ve outscored opponents 33-8. Lundqvist and the Rangers, meanwhile, are struggling -- they’ve lost five of seven and Lundqvist’s numbers on the season aren’t great: 6-4-1, with a 2.79 GAA and .905 save percentage.
For Pittsburgh, it’s likely that Marc-Andre Fleury will get the start in goal.
