Dallas Stars leaders ‘totally failed’ leadership drill

Stars

His Stars mired in a seven-game losing streak, and coming off a loss in which he called them “mentally weak,” Dallas coach Lindy Ruff ran an interesting drill in yesterday’s practice.

Stars

What was Ruff looking for in the unusual race?

The answer is “leadership.”

And what did he find?

The “grinders” won, while “one group totally failed the test.”

And who was that group comprised of?

Well, three of them were Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza. (A.k.a. the captain and the Stars’ top two scorers.)

“Here’s a drill in which you’re going to have to work together as a team, someone is going to have to grab the bull by the horns, and they didn’t get it done,” Ruff said, per the Dallas Morning News.

“It’s a fun drill, I liked watching it, but I liked watching the guys in the middle — the guys were talking to each other, one guy was giving the orders and the guys were following it and teamwork got it done.”

Anyway, it was just a drill, and Ruff’s probably not setting his lines based on the results. But he sure did sound serious about it:
