Nate Thompson’s scoring slump to start the season is over.
The 30-year-old center scored his first goal of the 2014-15 campaign in his 12th game, and it counted as the overtime winner as the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Dallas Stars by a final score of 2-1 on Friday.
Thompson went to the net, got in behind the Stars’ defenseman and deflected a Corey Perry shot, giving the Ducks their ninth win of the season.
“Whenever you score a goal, a big goal, it’s great. I was just going to the net and got my stick on it,” said Thompson, as per the Ducks’ Twitter account.
In addition to being low-scoring, it was also a tight-checking game between the two teams, as they rekindled their growing rivalry that began to develop during the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs. The Ducks held the Stars to just a single shot in the second period.
