Veteran d-man McBain joins Kings’ AHL team

JamieMcBain

Jamie McBain, last seen participating in Arizona’s training camp, has agreed to join Los Angeles’ AHL affiliate in Manchester on a professional tryout.

McBain, 26, has a pretty healthy NHL resume, scoring 92 points in 275 career games with the Hurricanes and Sabres. He fell out of favor in Buffalo last season, though, and wasn’t tendered a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent this past summer.

When no deals came forth, the Minnesota native caught on with the Coyotes at the onset of training camp but failed to secure a contract, and was cut loose at the end of the preseason. There were reports that McBain was set to sign in the KHL, but he’s now landed a deal that’ll keep him in North America.

While the signing won’t send shockwaves throughout the league, it is interesting that McBain landed in Los Angeles. The Kings are currently down a defenseman with Slava Voynov suspended indefinitely following his arrest for suspicion of domestic assault; with L.A. pressed up against the cap, recalls are hard to come by and McBain could be an option down the road, assuming he signs on the cheap.
