Lightning captain Steven Stamkos scored twice as Tampa Bay hung on for a 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night.

The win improved the Lightning to 7-3-1 for the month of October.

Stamkos one-timed a Valtteri Filppula at 5:30 of the third period to give the Lightning a 3-1 lead.

Then at 16:48 of the third, Stamkos set up Jason Garrison, on the power play, for the game-winner.

“I didn’t think we had our best game, but we found a way to win,” Stamkos told the Tampa Bay Tribune. “That’s a good characteristic to have. Special teams played a big part down the stretch but they’re a good team. They clogged it up pretty well.”

Vladislav Namestnikov had the other Lightning goal while Ben Bishop made 24 saves for his sixth win of the season.

Jakub Voracek had a goal and an assist for the Flyers while Wayne Simmonds and Michael Raffl had the other Philadelphia goals.

The Flyers added depth to their blue line post-game inking veteran Carlo Colaiacovo.

Lightning rookie Jonathan Drouin, who spent the night on the fourth line along with Namestnikov, and Cedric Paquette, had 9:58 of ice time in the game.

Drouin picked up the secondary assist for his first career point on home ice.

“That line is coming, they gave us quality minutes,’’ said coach Jon Cooper. “All three of them, they possessed the puck, they played in the offensive zone quite a bit, created some chances and scored a goal. If you are going to do that every game, that’s a good sign.”
