Avs make Briere a healthy scratch

After seeing his ice time dwindle recently, Daniel Briere will be a healthy scratch for Colorado tonight when the Avs host the Islanders.

Briere, who scored a huge goal for Colorado earlier this year -- the game-winner with less than a second left over Boston on Oct. 13 -- has just one point in his last five games and has been the recipient of some seriously low TOI:

Freshly-recalled Dennis Everberg will draw into the lineup tonight to replace Briere.

As for what it means for the 37-year-old...well, Briere faced some similar adversity last year in Montreal, when Michel Therrien banished him to the press box for a spell. Briere responded and finished the year with 13 goals and 24 points in 69 games, then chipped in with some good production in the postseason, scoring three goals and seven points in 16 games.

That said, he’s struggled to find a fit under Patrick Roy and it’s unclear if that situation will change anytime soon.
