Rangers defenseman John Moore will likely be the second player Senior Vice President of Player Safety, Stephane Quintal disciplines.

Moore was handed a match penalty and ejected from the game for his elbow to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Erik Haula. Haula left the game following the hit.

Update: Haula did not return to the game.

Moore is a repeat offender. He was suspended two games for his hit on Canadiens forward Dale Weise during last spring’s Eastern Conference final.

Rule 21.2 of the NHL rulebook reads, “In addition to the match penalty, the player shall be automatically suspended from further competition until the Commissioner has ruled on the issue”.

The Rangers don’t play again until Saturday when they host the Winnipeg Jets.

Quintal is reportedly at Madison Square Garden watching this game. He’ll likely be reviewing the tape as Rangers forward Chris Kreider was also ejected in the first period.
