It’s been about two weeks since Evander Kane injured his knee in a collision with Winnipeg Jets teammate Mark Scheifele, and while progress has maybe been a bit slower than the team hoped, it looks like he could resume skating this week.

Head coach Paul Maurice shared what seems like a pretty promising update with the Canadian Press:

“Evander Kane is progressing quite well, to the point where we have an expectation here in the next few days that he’ll be back on IR (injured reserve) skates,” Maurice said. “Non main group skates, so nobody runs into a guy.”

“But he’ll be back on the ice sometime this week and then after that it’s as much about strength and healing time.”

One can excuse the Jets if they’re feeling anxious to get Kane, 23, back on the ice. Winnipeg’s offense has been sputtering this season with just 11 goals in six games, which certainly contributed to a 2-4-0 record.

The hope is that Kane can rekindle the form from the 2011-12 season in which he scored 30 goals and 57 points, and considering his age, it’s easy to imagine him turning things around.

We haven’t gotten much of a look at what he can do in 2014-15, however. That collision with Scheifele only came 1:24 into his first game on Oct. 10:
