The Los Angeles Kings have addressed the arrest and subsequent indefinite suspension of defenseman Slava Voynov, who was charged with domestic assault following an incident Sunday evening.

The club’s statement:

These developments are of great concern to our organization. We support the NHL’s decision to suspend Slava Voynov indefinitely during this process, and we will continue to take appropriate action as the legal proceedings and the investigation by the NHL take their course.

The Kings took Voynov in the second round (32nd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft; he immediately left his native Russia to join the organization and spent three seasons with AHL Manchester before making his big-league debut in 2011.

Following a breakout playoff effort in 2013 -- during which he scored 13 points in 18 games -- Voynov was rewarded with a six-year, $25 million extension.

As mentioned above, the alleged assault reportedly took place on Sunday evening. Earlier that day, Voynov played over 24 minutes (registering one assist) in a 2-1 win over Minnesota at Staples Center.

UPDATE: Here’s the Redondo Beach police department statement on the arrest, per the O.C. Register.
