Arizona goes with Smitty

There was some thought Devan Dubnyk would be in line for a second straight start on Wednesday -- he was coming off a win versus Los Angeles, and Arizona is taking on his old Oilers club -- but head coach Dave Tippett confirmed it’d be Mike Smith in goal tonight when the ‘Yotes host Edmonton at Gila River Arena.

Smith was poor in his first and only outing of this season, allowing six goals on 27 shots in the team’s opener against the Jets. But he’s set up well for a bounce-back tonight, as the depleted Oilers come in on the second of a back-to-back, without the services of Viktor Fasth and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

Speaking of the Oilers, Ben Scrivens will get the nod tonight.

Hiller back in for Calgary

Karri Ramo has backstopped Calgary to its only two wins this season but tonight, Jonas Hiller gets the team’s biggest test of the young campaign.

Hiller, who last played Saturday in a 4-1 defeat to St. Louis, will face Chicago on Wednesday night in the second game of a back-to-back; last night, Ramo made 19 saves in regulation and OT, then stopped all three Nashville shooters in the shootout for a 3-2 Flames victory at Bridgestone.

For the ‘Hawks, Corey Crawford will start once again.
