Another shootout loss keeps Flyers winless

The Philadelphia Flyers surely wanted to get off to a strong start after their 1-7-0 opening to the 2013-14 campaign. So far, they haven’t succeeded.

Philadelphia worked hard in an attempt to earn its first win tonight, but they ultimately lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Anaheim Ducks despite having a 42-28 edge in shots on goal.

To an extent, the Flyers can be happy they at least got a point out of this one. They trailed for most of the night and if not for a remarkable effort from forward Jakub Voracek late in the third period, this game would have been over much sooner:

Philadelphia can also take some comfort in Wayne Simmonds’s hot start. The 26-year-old forward had a goal and an assist, giving him seven points in just four contests.

Still, for the second straight game, the Flyers weren’t able to win in the skills competition and are now 0-2-2. It won’t get any easier for them either as they’re in a stretch of games against teams that made the 2014 playoffs. They’re set to start a three-game road trip on Saturday that will take them to Dallas, Chicago, and Pittsburgh.
