After a couple of rough losses to open the season, the Toronto Maple Leafs broke out in the second period of Sunday’s contest and New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was the victim.

With the score tied at 1-1, Phil Kessel fired a shot off the post and past Lundqvist to give the Maple Leafs the lead at 5:19 of the second period.

That started a run of five goals for Toronto in under 10 minutes that was only briefly interrupted by a marker from Lee Stempniak at 13:26 of the frame.

The Rangers’ defense deserves some of the blame too. For example, James van Riemsdyk was handed a shorthanded breakaway opportunity, although this goal in particular is one Lundqvist would likely love to have back:

The Maple Leafs went into the second intermission up 6-2.
