Flames’ Baertschi headlines latest cuts in Calgary

The Calgary Flamess annoucned three cuts on Saturday, headlined by forward Sven Baertschi.

Baertschi, 22 was Calgary’s first round pick (13th overall) in 2011. The left winger had two goals and 11 points in 26 games with the Flames last season.

He will report to the Adirondack Flames of the American Hockey League.

Baertschi will be joined by forward Josh Jooris and goaltender Joni Ortio.

The Flames now have two goaltenders, nine defensemen and 16 forwards on their roster. They’ll need to move four more bodies prior to Tuesday’s deadline to get down to the league-mandated 23-man roster.

Calgary opens the season Oct. 8 when they host the Vancouver Canucks.
