It looks like Daniel Carcillo will not be a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The team announced that they have released him from a professional tryout contract.

Carcillo was an interesting addition to the Penguins’ camp roster. The enforcer was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in 2003, but has never played in a regular season game with the club. Instead, Carcillo’s longest stint was with the rival Philadelphia Flyers.

The 29-year-old forward was hoping that he could bring some extra grit to the Penguins’ lineup, but they already attempted to do that over the summer by signing Steve Downie to a one-year deal.

Carcillo had four goals, five points, and 100 penalty minutes in 57 games last season. The Penguins now have 31 players, including 17 forwards, left on their training camp roster.
