Habs waive Drewiske, Dumont (Update: Bowman released from PTO)

Drewiske

The Montreal Canadiens further trimmed their training camp roster on Thursday, by waiving a pair of veteran skaters.

Defenseman Davis Drewiske and winger Gabriel Dumont were waived for the purpose of demotion to AHL Hamilton, the club announced. Dumont, 23, has appeared in 15 games over the course of three seasons for the Habs; the former fifth-round pick has spent the majority of his professional career with the Bulldogs and seems destined to spend more time in the American League this season.

Drewiske, 29, is a more intriguing case. The former Kings blueliner has appeared in over 100 NHL contests and while his time in Montreal was interrupted by major shoulder surgery -- it sidelined him for nearly six months -- he does have a wealth of experience and some good size, at 6-foot-1, 220 pounds.

In related news, the club also sent Jake Dowell, Greg Pateryn and Sven Andrighetto to Hamilton.

UPDATE: Former Carolina forward Drayson Bowman, who was in Habs camp on a professional tryout, has been released.
