Mike Green (upper body) misses second straight practice

Mike Green

The Washington Capitals plans to Rejuvenate defenseman Mike Green’s game have been put on hold. He has missed two straight practices due to an upper-body injury, per the Washington Post.

He’s day-to-day, although he won’t return Monday given that the Capitals are taking it off.

There’s been no indication that Green’s injury is serious and even if it’s noteworthy, he has another week and a half to recover before the Capitals’ regular season opener. All the same, it’s not an encouraging start for Green, given that his play has been only part of the problem since his hard fall from his peak of 76 points in 2009-10.

Over the last four seasons, Green has only played in 186 of a possible 294 games due to a variety of injuries that included ankle and groin problems as well as concussions.

While Capitals coach Barry Trotz is optimistic about Green’s future and the offensive defenseman seems open to blocking more shots and playing a bigger role when it comes to killing penalties, he’ll only go as far as his health will allow.
