Henrik Tallinder left Friday’s preseason game against the Buffalo Sabres after being hit into the boards by defenseman Mike Weber and the news got worse after the contest. Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle revealed that he has a separated shoulder, per the Canadian Press.

Tallinder has spent most of his career with Buffalo, but is attending the Toronto Maple Leafs’ training camp on a tryout basis. It’s not clear how long Tallinder will be sidelined, but this might severely hinder his chances of making the team as a depth defenseman.

His main competition for that role is Korbinian Holzer or Stuart Percy. That being said, defenseman Stephane Robidas is still recovering from a leg injury that dates back to the 2014 playoffs, so his status could further complicate the Maple Leafs’ plans.

On a more positive note for Toronto, Tyler Bozak had a goal and two assists in his return from a lower-body injury.
