Endorsing Quick’s recovery? Kings release Deslauriers from PTO

If you were looking for a strong sign that the Los Angeles Kings feel optimistic about Jonathan Quick’s (wrist) chances of being ready for the start of the season, you got one today. They have released goaltender Jeff Deslauriers from his tryout contract, per LA Kings Insider.

Although there were initial indications that Quick might not be able to play in a preseason game, he hasn’t suffered any setbacks thus far and might end up participating in multiple exhibition contests.

Deslauriers also provided the Kings with a veteran alternative to 24-year-old Martin Jones, although Jones was always believed to be the heavy favorite for the backup job after recording a 1.81 GAA and .934 save percentage in 19 games with Los Angeles last season.

The Kings went down a similar path last summer when Ben Scrivens was projected to serve as the number two goaltender, but they brought in Mathieu Garon on a tryout contract to compete with him during training camp. As was the case with Deslauriers, Garon was released.
