The Boston Bruins have a wealth of options on defense - at least until they need to clear some cap space with a trade, one would imagine - which is bad news for players trying to make the roster. That seems to be the case for journeyman blueliner Steve Eminger, who was among the 10 players sent to the Bruins’ AHL affiliate in Providence.
Granted, there’s no guarantee that he would have made the NHL-level roster if things weren’t so tight, but this situation makes it that much easier of a decision.
The 30-year-old has 488 games of NHl experience under his belt, with most knowing him from his days with the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals. He last saw NHL action with the Rangers in 2012-13, appearing in 35 regular season and 11 playoff games.
If nothing else, Eminger could provide a veteran presence if injuries and/or cap-clearing deals creating a need.
