The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended their affiliate agreement with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL through the 2015-16 season, with an option for two additional years.

“The affiliation between the Blue Jackets and Springfield Falcons has been a successful and rewarding one for both clubs and we’re pleased that the relationship will continue,” said Jackets assistant GM Chris MacFarland in a release. “The Falcons organization, under the leadership of Sarah Pompea, has been tremendous to work with and we look forward to having our prospects continue to grow and develop in Springfield.”

The Falcons are owned by retired steel executive Charles Pompea (as opposed to being owned by the NHL club) and play in the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Before the Blue Jackets, the Falcons were affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers -- a partnership that ended on a somewhat sour note.

The Falcons have made the playoffs the past two seasons -- this after missing them for nine straight.
“We are excited to continue our affiliation and strong relationship with the Columbus organization,” said Falcons president Sarah Pompea. “The extension further affirms our continued commitment to the Greater Springfield community. Columbus has been a great partner and we look forward to having continued success with them both on and off the ice.”
