Video: Grieving Ryan Suter talks about his late father

Just a week and a half ago, Ryan Suter lost his father, Bob Suter, to a heart attack. The late Suter, 57, won an Olympic gold medal with the United States as a member of the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” team.

Ryan is glad to be at training camp so that he has an opportunity get his mind off of his recent loss. He took questions from the media following Friday’s practice.

“My Dad, we were pretty close so...I’m going to start crying again,” Ryan said before asking for a moment to collect himself. After telling himself to “toughen up” he continued, “We were really close, just a really good guy. Hard working guy. I’m going to miss him.”

He’s appreciated the team’s support during this time and singled out owner Craig Leipold for flying the Wild to Madison so that everyone would be there for the service. Over 4,000 people attended the wake.

“Everywhere you go, people are coming up to me and telling me stories about how great my dad was,” Ryan said. “It’s a pretty special feeling to hear the stories. ... That’s how we have to live on, through the memories.”
