L.A. defenseman Drew Doughty was kept off ice on Friday due to an upper-body injury that occurred during training, the club announced.
Per assistant general manager Rob Blake, Doughty is currently listed as day-to-day.
It’s unclear exactly how the injury occurred. Doughty was skating as recently as Wednesday, so it’s possible keeping him away from team activities is a precautionary measure. The Kings are heavily reliant on the 24-year-old rearguard -- he averaged 25:42 TOI per game last year, seventh-most in the NHL -- so it wouldn’t be surprising if they exercised caution regarding anything health-related.
