Sounds like Rangers forward J.T. Miller is hoping a more “professional” approach to his job will pay dividends in 2014-15.
From The Record:
A more focused, a more serious J.T. Miller also chatted on the record today, acknowledging his approach to last season in terms of his offseason preparation was not “very professional.” Miller has been skating at the practice facility for about a month now, being among the very early arrivals. Miller has a chance to earn a spot centering a line, though he said he’s prepared to do whatever the coaching staff needs of him, be a center or remain on wing.
“I don’t know the specifics,” Miller said. “It could be either/or. Either way, I want to be in top form just coming into camp.”
“I’m much more prepared,” Miller added. “Last year, I got here the day before. That was not very professional.”
Miller was criticized last season by head coach Alain Vigneault for his “commitment” level...
Vigneault says JT Miller has to "figure it out" and show more "commitment." If he does, good. If not, "he’ll be a good minor-leaguer"

...but the 21-year-old who spent 2013-14 shuttling between the AHL and NHL has a chance to make the leap this season.
“I think we made it pretty clear to [Miller] when he left where he stands and the opportunity in front of him. You only get so many chances,” Rangers assistant general manager Jeff Gorton told NHL.com. “I think J.T. is a pretty proud guy and a confident kid. I think he’s encouraged there’s a chance for him in the lineup. We’re all looking forward to how he comes back, but it’s all up to him.”
