This wasn’t the start Brett Ritchie would’ve been hoping for in his bid to make the Dallas Stars this autumn.

Ritchie, a second-round pick of the Stars in 2011, suffered an injury his right pinkie finger in a prospects game Saturday at the Traverse City tournament, according to Mike Morreale of NHL.com.

Ritchie, 21 years of age and standing 6'3" and 220 pounds, scored 22 goals and 48 points in 68 games this season - his first full professional season - with the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League.

He also had seven goals and 11 points in 13 playoff games with the Stars, who captured the Calder Cup.

Ritchie got off to a great start in the Traverse City tournament, scoring twice and adding an assist in a 4-3 overtime win over the New York Rangers prospects on Friday, according to the Dallas Morning News.
