David Krejci met with the media to explain why he signed his whopping new six-year, $43.5 million contract extension with the Boston Bruins. He was gracious enough to leave out details about (hypothetically) installing a Scrooge McDuck-style swimming pool in his home, too.
“I wanted to play where I could win; that Peter Chiarelli thought I could help the organization win the Cup means a lot,” Krejci said.
The 28-year-old sounded like he was on board with the idea of Loui Eriksson being on his line, noting that the Swede’s passing abilities might help Krejci score more goals.
Krejci had 19 goals and 69 points last season and peaked with 23 tallies back in 2011-12, but the key might just be to get him to shoot more often. With 941 shots on goal in 504 career regular season games, he doesn’t even average two shots on net per evening. With that in mind, it’s impressive how often he finds the net.
Despite all the talk about Krejci making more (at least cap hit-wise) than key Bruins - Patrice Bergeron said the money’s “well-deserved,” for one - the Bruins seem like they’re well-suited to be formidable for at least the next few seasons (especially if the talk of Zdeno Chara’s decline is exaggerated).
Sometimes that means paying a premium for players like Krejci, but it sounds like he’s eager to prove that he’s worth it.
Krech, on commitment from B's: "You know that they believe in you, they trust you, that means a lot. You just go out there & play the game"
