St. Louis Blues show off new jerseys

Aug 25, 2014, 8:41 PM EDT

The St. Louis Blues will have a new look in 2014-15 with a jersey design that clearly takes its inspiration from the team’s style from 1998-2007:

“We’re going back to tradition. It’s certainly exciting to be able to wear these,” said Alex Pietrangelo, per the team’s website. “You can tell it’s going back to the traditional Blues, the history of the Blues. We love to represent that as players.

“I thought they did a great job of combining the old with the new.”

For the sake of comparison to the look that they were emulating, here’s a picture of Keith Tkachuk taken in 2003:

And here is what the Blues looked like last season:

So what do you think? Is putting a new spin on the Blues’ old look an improvement or did you prefer their more recent jerseys?

100% improvement!! Too many teams with practice jersey looks.

  2. deathbat20 - Aug 25, 2014 at 8:53 PM

These jersey are perfect, such a great improvement I hated that vertical piping they had

  3. jinx21fan - Aug 25, 2014 at 9:18 PM

WTF is wrong with this franchise? Do they have a full-time team designing tweaks to their uniforms every year or so? If I was a fan, I wouldn’t buy anything associated with their money grab at all. Buy a jersey and after a season it’s outdated? Sorry.

The last change was 07-08? Your irrelevant

      • liamj55 - Aug 26, 2014 at 10:04 AM

        its You’re…………..

      • jinx21fan - Aug 26, 2014 at 5:08 PM

Yes. My bad. The blues did lay off their tendency to tinker for a while. My feeling stays the same though. The vast, vast majority of these tweaks are purely money grabs and have nothing to do with “updated looks”.

There’s only one way to get the term “classic” describing a teams uniform.

These are great. I prefer the more traditional looking ‘sweaters’ and would like to see the NHL return to having the home teams wear their light colours.

  5. icelovinbrotha215 - Aug 25, 2014 at 9:49 PM

Idk. I’m not a huge fan.

  6. hieronymous27 - Aug 25, 2014 at 9:53 PM

The new UNI’S are an improvement but they do need to pick a look and stick with it.

  7. endusersolutions2013 - Aug 25, 2014 at 10:25 PM

As compared to some original 6 teams. Blackhawks have stayed the course since the 1950’s, and it’s amoung the most recognized jersies in sports.

      well said friend …

    • Paper Lions - Aug 26, 2014 at 10:30 AM

I know, right. They never change anything, ever.

Except for tweaks every couple of years.

The new ones look so much better. The new road white uniforms are awesome.

I’m not a SLB fan, but I think the new jersey is an improvement. I’d recomend hanging with it. I’m a long time , part time musician. I’m also a former art major, so i do the visual thing, and I mentally combine the two.

I like the imagry linking the musical not to a wing, as in flying, speed. Presented better on this background.

I’m going to post a music video link (I know, and yet I’m not a Blomfeld alternate logon). I’m doing this to issustrate a linkage the Blues are clearly trying to tap.

Wishbone Ash is an outstanding progressive rock group, playing/touting continously for 40+ years. They had a song that linked guitars and flying. The reason was the ongoing lead guitarist played a Gibson “Flying V” as his main guitar. The song was “Real Guitars have Wings” (unlike Blomfeld, I actually make the point of a link clear, and I’m actually far more likely to include a hockey-related link and a music vid.

Once again, I key too late at night and make some very bad typos. Some day I’ll learn:(((

  10. vipod4ever - Aug 25, 2014 at 11:39 PM

Vast improvement, now stick with it! Truth be told, I prefer the jerseys if the late 60’s. The Gary Unger days!

  11. fortwaynekomets - Aug 26, 2014 at 12:01 AM

I say bring back the jerseys from 93-96 with the yellow and blue with red pinstripes! Best ones ever! Aka the only one Gretzky wore ;-)

  12. fortwaynekomets - Aug 26, 2014 at 12:03 AM

33 to 22 I completely agree about bringing back the WHITE as home and DARK as Away!!! Does anyone know the exact year they switched that? It confuses me when watching highlight films :-/

  13. blomfeld - Aug 26, 2014 at 12:08 AM

WELL LET’S GET DOWN TO BRASS TACKS

Why don’t the Blues just ‘cut to the chase’ and give it to us ‘square’ by wearing their traditional and ‘indigenous’ costumes ?

  14. hanspard - Aug 26, 2014 at 10:25 AM

Anything that keeps them from wearing those dark blue jerseys with the arch on them. I hate those things, but I seem to be the only one.

  15. comeonnowguys - Aug 26, 2014 at 1:13 PM

I like these, and whew. Thought they were going to bring back the Blue, Yellow and Red. Yuck.

  16. ronniethec - Aug 26, 2014 at 5:53 PM

The Blues will look good in their new rags when they make the Western Conference finals. Unfortunately they will once again have to face the team with the LA on their jerseys.
