Crosby’s agent says surgery still a possibility

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced yesterday that, after seeking additional medical advice, captain Sidney Crosby was forgoing surgery on his injured wrist in favor of “treatments.”

But according to Crosby’s agent, Pat Brisson, it’s no guarantee the treatment will work.

“If this treatment works, you avoid surgery and move on,” Pat Brisson told the Post-Gazette, the same Pittsburgh newspaper that reported last week that Crosby was scheduled for surgery. “If it doesn’t, he will have to go that [surgical] route.”

Brisson wouldn’t go into details about the treatment, other than to say it’s “a form of injection that has been proven to work, but sometimes it doesn’t work.”

Stay tuned to PHT for all the latest on Wristgate ’14!!

Man, I can’t wait for October.

    • hockey412 - Jul 16, 2014 at 10:55 AM

I hear you bro…got to give it to these writers though…we stay stuck to these headlines and we expect them, even when there’s no news, even if it’s just to say “you call that NEWS”?

In this case, why Post-Gazette needed to confirm a non-story with a player’s agent in the first place is beyond me. As a resident of Pittsburgh, I can tell you that there are far more pressing stories to cover.

      • JerseyGirl - Jul 16, 2014 at 11:45 AM

It could be worse. Wait till they start writing articles denying random things no one ever suspected or confirming trivial crap no one cares about. [Remember last off-season when they ‘confirmed’ a sighting of Erik Karlsson at a nightclub — if you don’t — that’s because it was utterly meaningless & trivial].

Keep in mind PHT is an NBC Sports media product. Do you know who purchased controlling interest in NBC-Universal within the last few years? [Hint: It’s a cable company known for illegally leveraging sports programming to obtain higher subscription rates at higher prices that ALSO conveniently OWNS their very own NHL team.] Part of the NHL on NBC deal also including NBC taking over ‘programming’ responsibilities for the NHL Network [US TV station]

I would say we need to start referring to Canadian media outlets for actual newsworthy information, but after conveniently giving the Canadian national tv broadcast contract to the company owning majority share of a Canadian NHL team — we may need to start relying on ESPN for any actual newsworthy information about the NHL.

In other words, 99% of the ‘news & media’ coverage on the NHL comes from …. the NHL [in one way or another]. The only ‘news’ we get is the ‘news’ the NHL wants us to have.

So, there’s a chance that perhaps Crosby is thinking about conceivably getting surgery possibly this offseason…. Maybe.

    • jdlinder11 - Jul 16, 2014 at 11:14 AM

He is definitely, possibly, maybe getting surgery at some point

      • steelpenbucs87 - Jul 16, 2014 at 11:16 AM

Sidney Crosby and his team are open to the idea of launching an investigation into whether or not surgery could conceivably help to heal his wrist, but only after the initial due diligence is done to see if such a study would be warranted.

I love that movie… although… it disturbs me that it’s 20 years old now!

  3. lilgurgi - Jul 16, 2014 at 11:18 AM

Who thinks he gets surgery just in time to miss all of the shananigans known as the preseason? I do love when athletes do that. Then they wonder why they had a slow start to the season.

  4. lonespeed - Jul 16, 2014 at 11:33 AM

I completely mis-interpreted that headline. I thought he was finally electing to have surgery to become a full-blown girl.

    • hockeyfan1701 - Jul 16, 2014 at 2:47 PM

Even if he did be come a “full-blown girl” he still would be more of a man than you…

  5. blomfeld - Jul 16, 2014 at 11:43 AM

    GO CROSBY !!! :)

Despite the ceaseless ‘envy and scorn’ which is constantly directed his way, I remain convinced that Sidney Crosby is a good man and that he ‘means’ well …

Blomfled you are one funny guy but weren’t you one of the guys jumping on the Crosby hate bandwagon after the Pens when they got bounced? Seems a but odd that you come off as supporting now.

      • blomfeld - Jul 17, 2014 at 12:48 AM

No friend, that isn’t so. The only time I’ve ever come down on Crosby here at PHT was that time he ‘disgracefully’ jumped the queue at the DMV in Pittsburgh last year. And I wasn’t alone with my ‘abhorrence’ for his selfish behavior that day. No sir, as almost everyone else here weighed in with the ‘disgust’ as well. As you know, Elvis had to put his musical career on hold for ‘two years’ when he went off to Germany to defend his country back in 1958. And yet here you had ‘golden boy’ Crosby who didn’t have the decency to stand in line with his fellow man for a lousy 30 minutes ?

  6. JerseyGirl - Jul 16, 2014 at 11:50 AM

I call — no surgery during the offseason & uses the ‘should have had the surgery during the offseason’ as an excuse for poor performance during his first slump in the season.

I also call — whines & cries other teams players intentionally trying to go after his ‘injured wrist’

And Finally, I call — once the season starts, his ‘wrist injury’ will be referred to only as an ‘upper body injury’.

      Thanks for the update Snookie

Jersey Girl just got knocked the F out by quarrel.

  7. jweipp17 - Jul 16, 2014 at 12:08 PM

I always figured Pierre McGuire would be the one with a wrist injury in that relationship. But seriously why wait so long to make a decision. Just have the surgery now and be ready for the season like a real leader should do!

  8. icrew29 - Jul 16, 2014 at 12:08 PM

Get some balls Sydney and make a decision and stop listening to agents, owners and trainers when it comes to YOUR body!

    • steelcity333 - Jul 16, 2014 at 12:32 PM

Yeah Sid, don’t listen to the medical professionals who know what they’re talking about.

  9. pitpenguinsrulez - Jul 16, 2014 at 12:29 PM

Seriously just get the damn surgery already! That way this issue is done.

    • c9castine - Jul 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM

im not going to pretend to be a doctor like some people in here but common sense tells me you dont cut into one of your body parts if their isnt a clear cut benefit to doing it.

if at some point it becomes clear there is a benefit to surgery im sure it will be done.

Hey LOOK! Someone with a brain! Bet you didn’t have to look up ambivalence. Have a good day c9.

        Good line,there JoeAve.

Just a get it done so it doesn’t haunt you in the season

    Thank god for Nathan MacKinnon!

  12. blackandorangeforlife - Jul 16, 2014 at 1:05 PM

Hopefully in the 1st game against the Flyers Giroux breaks that wrist with a nasty slash as payback….Only Giroux will help Sid off the ice by grabbing his but and tossing him on the bench

    • blackandorangeforlife - Jul 16, 2014 at 1:14 PM

      but???? *Butt!

    • lilgurgi - Jul 16, 2014 at 1:21 PM

Won’t happen as Pierre will jump over the boards to defend his boy. That would work out well though as hopefully NBC would drop his ass then. A Flyers fan can only hope.

  13. bobc74 - Jul 17, 2014 at 3:28 AM

I’m glad his agent knows more than the doctors. Pat Brisson, MD? I’m reminded of the “team doctor” character played by actor James Woods in the movie “Any Given Sunday”.
