Report: Renney to be named president of Hockey Canada

Tom Renney will be introduced tomorrow as the new president of Hockey Canada, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

Renney will replace Bob Nicholson, now an executive with the Edmonton Oilers.

To take the job, Renney will have to leave Detroit, where he’s been an associate coach for the last two years on Mike Babstock’s staff, which also lost Bill Peters to Carolina this offseason.

Hockey Canada and Renney have a relationship that dates all the way back to the early 1990’s, when he coached the Canadian national team, winning a silver medal at the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for somebody to be the head man of Hockey Canada,” Red Wings general manager Ken Holland said, per MLive. “We supported Tom by allowing him to be part of the process.”
