PHT Morning Skate: The Canucks hired a bartender

Jul 10, 2014, 8:00 AM EDT

PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look at the world of hockey, to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL and beyond.

Jay Jones, selected as Vancouver’s “Most Imaginative Bartender” by GQ Magazine, has been hired by the Canucks as their new director of wine and beverage, with the goal of improving Rogers Arena drink services. (Vancouver Sun)

Adam Erne, the 33rd overall pick at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, is going for surgery on his injured wrist and could be out until training camp. (

The Buffalo Sabres acquired Quinnipiac forward Jordan Samuels-Thomas from Winnipeg in exchange for a seventh-round pick. (Buffalo News)

The American Hockey League has announced its realignment for 2014-15. (AHL)

NHL Network’s Kathryn Tappen has joined the NBC Sports Group. (NBC Sports Group Press Box)

Remember Alex Bourret? The 16th overall pick in 2005? Taken ahead of Tuukka Rask, T.J. Oshie, Andrew Cogliano, Martin Hanzal and Matt Niskanen? Anyway, he just signed with the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League.

” … the goal of improving Rogers Arena drink services.”

Too late by one season. Because, if anyone needed a good stiff drink at a Canucks’ game, they certainly needed it during that debacle of last season.

You’re trying to tell me that NBC hired an on-air personality that doesn’t grate the nerves, isn’t overly biased towards one team or one player, or isn’t an idiotic argumentative belligerent Neanderthal? Not buying it.

More Kathryn Tappen, less Mike Milbury

Indeed. If anyone thumbs down your comment, I’d be stunned.

she’s a moron, she will fit right in. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her make it through a segment without stumbling over her words or failing to make a really awkward segway into another topic. way easier to look at though, just not good enough looking to earn her the job on looks alone…which begs the question, if she’s not pretty enough and is terrible at speaking…how did she get the job? hmmmmm

Hooray for the addition of Kathryn “Ass-I’d-Like-to-Be” Tappen. As Pierre McGuire would say, she’s “just unbelievable!”

No, he says that about Cindy.

This is a pipe dream but I hope Kat someday is between the benches instead of that dildo with a headset Pierre

The double entendre of your remarks are too funny for words.

      • wutangwild - Jul 10, 2014 at 12:51 PM

        lol slightly intended

How can you not appreciate Pierre guys? He has the amazing skill of no matter what teams are playing to find a connection to the Pens.

He did that a lot at the Winter Olympics in Russia.
