Video: Kings’ Brown teases Obama about Blackhawks in congratulatory phone call

Jul 3, 2014, 10:28 PM EST

You know a hockey player is fairly seasoned in the art of the “presidential Stanley Cup congratulatory phone call” when he has the wherewithal to tease the Leader of the Free World.

Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown gently ribbed U.S. President Barack Obama regarding his beloved Chicago Blackhawks in accepting congratulations for the 2014 championship run. Watch the full call video (also sitting by is Kings GM Dean Lombardi) below:

Brown, 29, seemed much looser in this phone call than he did chatting up Obama back in 2012:

The Kings can only hope that Brown gets more chances to razz future president(s), then.

Osama sounded like he didn’t even watch the series. Y-y-y-you had a great series

    • nothanksimdriving123 - Jul 4, 2014 at 4:55 PM

Oh you poor confused person. Let me help you. Osama was a terrorist who killed thousands of innocent people of myriad nationalities and religions, including his own. He’s now dead. Obama is the twice-elected President who approved the military operation that led to the terrorist’s death. I hope that helps.

As a foreign national Barack was not pleased to have to congratulate the American captain of a US-based squad. “Yes we can!” (but would rather you subsidize it for us). Sigh.

Hawaii is part of the United States. Sigh.

lol love the Political barbs at our President lol was he elected? For one To get elected into office I was under the impression that one had to get the majority’s of the publics vote? Oh, I must be mistaken? My bad!!!

    • blomfeld - Jul 4, 2014 at 1:05 AM

      No kidding eh ?

I mean seriously, 2000 and 2004 had to have been the biggest ‘hoodwinks’ since the Dutch bought Manhattan from Native Americans on May 24,1626 for goods valued at 60 Dutch guilders ! :)

Jeeze I almost forgot what a complete dope GWB was. That guy had to be the worst elected official (sort of elected) in the history of democracy.

    • flyerspsu - Jul 4, 2014 at 12:43 PM

while this is not the right forum to go into a debate about politics or anything like that I’ll bite anyway just b/c of how simple minded your post was

sure Obama was elected, so was G Bush … doesn’t say much, its not hard to get elected when you have some of the most powerful corporations and people supporting and funding you

      our last 4 presidents:

      Sr. Bush

      Bill Clinton

      G Bush

      Obama(Clinton was the favorite)

now Clinton is the favorite to win in 2016 (also Jeb Bush is one of the favorites for the Repub.)

notice a trend? we don’t truly pick the presidents, we choose the lesser of 2 evils of bought out corporate elitists and hope for the best

Whats Obama’s approval rating now? how about we actually look at what Obama has done during his presidency, don’t you think that holds more value than getting elected over Mitt Robot Romney?

Im not going to go into detail on all the things Obama has botched or completely sold out on despite running his entire campaign on the opposite, if you havnt realized them there is no point and wasting any more time explaining

are you a muslim?, you seem to have a secret hate for western civilization

      • flyerspsu - Jul 4, 2014 at 1:25 PM

I hate how corrupt our government is, and maybe even more frustrating is how many people in the U.S. don’t even realize and think we are in this perfect democracy, our representatives don’t even represent us

also nice ignorant line about being Muslim

  8. sabresfanallday - Jul 4, 2014 at 8:57 AM

    I wouldn’t answer

    • guitarisgood4u - Jul 4, 2014 at 10:42 AM

I’m not a fan of this president or the last, but if either of them called I’d gladly answer.
It’s still the President of the United States.
      Greatest country in the world.

      • flyerspsu - Jul 4, 2014 at 12:20 PM

the U.S. is not the greatest country in the world …

      • patthehockeyfan - Jul 4, 2014 at 12:26 PM

Now why did you have to go there, flyerpsu? To most U.S. citizens, the U.S. is the greatest country in the world. To Canadian citizens, Canada is. To the French, it’s France. Et cetera, et cetera., et cetera. One would hope that’s how it should be.

My question to you is, if the U.S. isn’t, which country, in your opinion, is?

      • flyerspsu - Jul 4, 2014 at 1:02 PM

there is no country that perpetuates their ignorant false belief that they are the best more than the U.S., and the thing is a lot of the U.S. citizens actually believe it think there is no other country that can even hold a candle stick to this incredible freedom land that is the U.S., it gets tiresome at times

the only things the U.S. is 1st in is military spending where they spend more than the next 26 countries combined, 25 of which are military allies, and the 2nd is the U.S. incarcerates (jails) its own people more than any other country in the world by a long shot, which a lot of has to do with private prisons all over the country having business deals/contracts w/ states to make sure they have full capacity in their jails (i.e. make sure you jail as many people as possible b/c we make money that way) and keep drug and immigration laws as tough as possible, the stuff is literally in their contracts they sign w/ states, oh and we were 1st in obesity but Mexico just passed us this past year

obviously its not clear which country is the greatest, but it is clear that it is not the U.S., the U.S. has mediocre education and healthcare and is run by corporations and bought out people who support them, its tough to have the greatest country in the world when your “representatives” don’t actually represent the people

there are plenty of Europeans countries, just check out Scandanavia, they do not have corrupt governments like ours, have great education, healthcare, their people are smarter, nicer, and those countries are in such great financial positions that I believe it was in Norway that it was proposed everybody would get a $3,000 allowance every month, they also don’t force themselves into other countries for “military reasons” when its essentially just to take that country’s oil and resources

      • flyerspsu - Jul 4, 2014 at 1:30 PM

let me also specify that I am grateful for where I was born and in comparison to some other countries the U.S. is pretty great, but that doesn’t change the huge glaring problems this country has starting at top with who runs the country (not talking about Obama)

      • revskip - Jul 4, 2014 at 11:04 PM

Nationalism is silly. The idea that the people who live in one part of the world are any better than others born in a different part of the world is baffling. Especially when the people live on the same continent. Take Toronto and Detroit. Or Baja Mexico and Southern California.

      • guitarisgood4u - Jul 6, 2014 at 2:23 AM

I think it’s funny that this post warranted such a response. I was serious about the first two lines, but I was being facetious about the “greatest country in the world” claim.

But I do agree with most, if not all of what you said, flyerspsu.

Brownie will be getting a call from the IRS now

    • nothanksimdriving123 - Jul 4, 2014 at 4:52 PM

Only if he tries to set up a political activist group and fraudulently claim tax exempt status, which is what the supposed “scandal” is all about.

  10. partsman193509 - Jul 4, 2014 at 4:26 PM

Maybe you can tell me why there are so many people trying to get in to the United States. There has to be a reason for that don’t you think.

  11. semuir - Jul 4, 2014 at 5:03 PM

What do Obama and the Blackhawks have in common? Neither can get it done for their teams.
