Trade: Sharks grab Tye McGinn from Flyers for third-rounder

The San Jose Sharks are ready to reacquaint themselves with the McGinn family. They employed Jamie McGinn until trading him to Colorado in 2011-12 and added his brother Tye McGinn via a trade that sent their 2015 third-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday.

Tye McGinn, 23, still needs a new contract as a restricted free agent. He’s coming off a deal that paid him $775K per year. Cap Geek estimates that San Jose has about $14.32 million in cap space, so they should easily squeeze whatever his new deal would be under the ceiling.

The Flyers selected the big winger in the fourth round (119th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He scored five points in 18 games in both the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, so he’s been able to at least get his feet wet at the NHL level.

Philly also signed defenseman Nick Schultz to a one-year deal (via CSNPhilly.com) and forward Andrew Gordon to a one-year, two-way contract recently.

I really liked this kid and hoped he would see regular time with the club this year…oh well

Interesting. I think the Flyers like McGinn but are need of cap space. Nice job by Hexy to get a 3rd rounder.

      I disagree…they didn’t like him..they kept sending him down

good move to get a 3rd rounder for a guy who was never going to crack the lineup as a regular

Nice grab Philly for a guy that couldn’t squeeze into their lineup. Sorry Claude, too soon?

Flyers don’t need cap space if he’s in the minors. ….

3rd pick for a classic ahl/nhl tweener up til this point in his career. Yea I can live with that

Maybe this is a way to lure his brother back in future. I’d bag on Wilson, but I still can’t believe he got a 2&6 rd picks for Stuart. A 6th rd would of been highway robbery for Stuart, not sure how he got a second as well. Gm’s are just throwing around draft picks. They don’t seem to care as long as they aren’t 1st.

Wilson is spinning his wheels. I’m a bit confused so far by his moves this off-season.

Did Doug WILSON make sure T. McGinnis wants to play for the Sharks? And not just because it is San Jose.
