Devils bring back Clemmensen on one-year deal

The New Jersey Devils have added a goalie, inking Scott Clemmensen to a one-year, two-way deal, per

Clemmensen, who spent five of his first six seasons with New Jersey, split last year between Florida and its AHL affiliate in San Antonio. He went 6-7-1 with the Panthers, posting a .896 save percentage and 3.09 GAA while playing out the final of a two-year, $2.4 million deal.

The 36-year-old now heads to New Jersey to battle for the backup gig behind Cory Schneider (safely assuming Martin Brodeur doesn’t return) with the likes of AHL Albany goalies Scott Wedgewood and Keith Kinkaid.

It’s possible the Devils could go out and audition another goalie for the No. 2 gig but, between Clemmensen and Wedgewood and Kinkaid, they do appear to be reasonably set in goal.

I like this… Never knew why they got rid of him to begin with. Was always a good backup Goalie for us in NJ.

Dont be suprised if you see Kinkaid or even Wedgewood called up in the near future…. All in all. Definitely a safe call. Needed a back up goalie since marty is Leaving/Retiring. $3-4mil for Marty is just not feasible right now. We need to Play Schnieder just like we need to play Larsson. Or we will lose both Cornerstones of the back end

Competition for Kinkaid, Lou likes to keep the boys honest.

Well. There you have it. This is classic Lamoriello FA.

    1-One overpaid guy
    2-One useless vet
And of course. Lou would have to change his last name if he left out #3
    3-one over the hill retread

Lou’s done until the trade deadline when he brings in some guy in a wheelchair to fill in blueline gaps.

its for one year dude…. Atleast hes a guy we have experience with in net and it will drive kinkaid or wedgewood to take his spot. Three guys as a backup option. Who else would you fall on as a back up? Did you wish they signed miller or hiller? Or Riemer to try and “share” tiime with schnieder. This was the best thing NJ could do as far as a back up goalie other than maybe Linback.

Don’t mistaken my comment. I liked Clemmensen a lot in 09. I was happy he left and got some cash. He deserved it. But as always, Lou loves his retreads. As for Cammelleri, it’s an over valued contract. But that’s FA. I think David Clarkson got more last year. But we didn’t need a winger as much as we needed a center. Plus Cammelleri is 32. Havlat is cheap.

All free agents make too much money… Thats why teams that know how to draft and develop have such good depth through out their entire line up. Its like big pay day. They get dismissed from their team and the highest bidder usually wins out. Only on rare cases do they take less money to go to another team for a cup. They know how difficult it is to win a cup so i think most of them would rather just have the money.
