Chevy: ‘From our standpoint, Evander is a Winnipeg Jet’

PHILADELPHIA — Kevin Cheveldayoff spoke for over 10 minutes with reporters this morning. Yet despite no shortage of probing questions, the Winnipeg Jets’ general manager didn’t really say all that much.

On the subject of Evander Kane, whose name has been bandied about in all sorts of trade rumors, Cheveldayoff would only say, “From an organization standpoint, we’re going to listen to everybody. If there’s a [player on the Jets] that a team has an interest in, my phone is open for a phone call. But that shouldn’t be categorized that anything is imminent, or that I’ve got deals on the table, or not.”

Later, Cheveldayoff bristled slightly when asked if Kane, 22, has asked to be traded.

“These kind of questions are really unfair,” he said. “There’s lots of conversations that go on [during the season]. Certainly there was levels of frustration at different points in time for individual players. From our standpoint, Evander is a Winnipeg Jet. There’s been lots of different rumors out there. At this point in time, this is how we’re going to proceed.”

The Jets have failed to make the playoffs in each of their three seasons in Winnipeg. With the honeymoon over in the prairie city, the pressure is building on management to produce a winner on the ice. Hence, all the trade speculation surrounding Kane, as well as other team stars like Dustin Byfuglien.

Still, Cheveldayoff is trying to stay patient, with this weekend’s draft of “paramount” importance.

“You can’t will yourself to make the playoffs,” he said. “You have to continue to build and get pieces that will try and push you forward.”

All right, Chevy, we know mum’s the word and all. That’s your M.O. and that’s cool. But for realz, yo. Make a deal and get that distraction off your team. Let Buffalo or Florida deal with him.

not that the Flyers can afford him anyway, but you’re right. he needs to be out of WPG, regardless of where he goes…. unless of course he doesn’t like playing there either.

why OH WHY is talent wasted on douchebags?

Hmmmm, I wonder if we could get Laughton in a deal?

Judging by Hextall’s words, no prospects are really on the table. I have a feeling the trade would HAVE to include one of the Flyers better d-men like they mentioned in the article. Somebody like Coburn. The Flyers can’t afford that trade whatsoever. I only posted it to show how much of an idiot E Kane is.

I get that Evander is still only 22 and has a ton of talent, but I’m getting pretty tired of his 1 scoring move (try to get past the D on the outside, if unsuccessful get boxed out and pushed off the puck, heaven forbid he actually makes it past the D-man and then its the usual wrist shot in directly at the goalie’s chest.) I honestly think he needs a fresh start and as a Jets fan I’m quite fine shipping him out assuming we get fair value. If he’s off to Philly, I would love to see a deal that involves Wayne Simmonds as part of the package.

no way the Flyers ditch Hartnell and Simmonds in the same week, let alone same season. even if we had Hartnell still, I don’t think Simmonds is moving. he IS our power play.

Evander Kane also favorited & then unfavorited two (seperate) fan comments about a trade to Boston & to Philly.
