For the second consecutive season, Sidney Crosby has been voted tops by his peers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins captain won his second straight Lindsay Award on Tuesday night, besting Anaheim’s Ryan Getzlaf and Philly’s Claude Giroux for the trophy presented annually to the league’s Most Outstanding Player, as voted by members of the NHLPA.

Last year, Crosby beat out Alex Ovechkin and Martin St. Louis for the second Lindsay of his career — No. 87 won his first in 2006-07, back when it was called the Lester B. Pearson Award.

This year’s trophy came on the strength of leading the league in points (104), assists (68), points per game (1.30), even-strength points (66) while leading all forwards in average ice time per game (21:58).

With his third win overall, Crosby now trails only Mario Lemieux (four) and Wayne Gretzky (five) for career Most Outstanding Player awards.

He deserves it. Giroux and Getzlaf were both huge parts of their teams but Crosby simply had an outstanding season.

Truly outstanding regular season, totally deserved, but has to pick it up substantially in the playoffs.

Complete no show in the playoffs!!!

This reward isn’t for playoff play, but again at least he has won a cup, more than a lot of players can say in the NHL.

Cuba is ruining this show. This is a joke. Seriously NHL is this the best you can do?

I disagree. I thought Cuba Gooding was the only person showing life on that stage. Funny and spontaneous. All the scripted stuff was boring. And, don’t get me started on those dancers. What the heck was that? A commercial for Las Vegas?

      • getinthefastlane - Jun 24, 2014 at 10:29 PM

To each his own. I also don’t think that the players actually like doing these things. They all looked like a deer in headlights.
But I agree with you about the dancers. It was lame. Overall I wouldn’t watch it again. Getting the highlights is good enough for me.

I agree he showed life, but it was over the top. I’m trying to listen to Bergeron or Messier talk about community involvement or leadership and he’s crowding them giving them mmhmm’s after every sentence. Just shut up and let the guys who we are all watching for talk please. If they had him present a different segment it might have been ok, but during the community involvement segment which was a serious moment he was making a joke out of it and it didnt fit.

bildomatic – we just saw it differently. I agree that Gooding mmhmm’d; however, it seemed as if he was agreeing and more or less complimenting them for their work. I’m agnostic; yet, his addition of “doing God’s work” was sincere and welcomed. I honestly didn’t think he was making a joke out of it, as you wrote.

Gooding even made some other joke a little later about talking off-script. As I wrote, it was fresh and spontaneous, especially the remark about a reverse Oreo cookie. I would have loved to have heard what was bleeped when the three of them remarked about grabbing each other’s asses.

As much as I hate him and Pittsburgh, he deserves it. He is the best player in the league by far……Uggghhhhhhh…..can’t believe I just hit post.

Well deserved. Best in the Game!

All the Pens fans will always think he deserves it he is all world to you all. He is a great player no doubt but he is not doing it alone. Getzlaf deserved it this year. Crosby is great until the heat is on then he is nothing. Last couple of years in the playoffs he has been trash…………………………
