PHT Extra: Who should win the Conn Smythe Trophy?

Jun 10, 2014, 5:21 PM EDT

As you’ll see, we shot today’s PHT Extra perched high atop one of New York City’s many skyscrapers. It was surprisingly warm up there, and we weren’t scared at all.

Two questions for discussion:

1. Do the Rangers have any shot of coming back in this thing?

2. When/if the Kings win, who should receive the Conn Smythe Trophy — Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar, Justin Williams, Jeff Carter, or Marian Gaborik?

  1. jacketsfan7 - Jun 10, 2014 at 5:22 PM

Gabby or Williams for being clutch in the playoffs

  2. pjblake2redwings - Jun 10, 2014 at 5:25 PM

    Doughty or Kopitar

  3. hockeyflow33 - Jun 10, 2014 at 5:32 PM

    1. Doughty
    2. Everyone else

Well, my vote HAS to be QUICK! Last night’s game was the main pivoting point. He stood on his head. He stole that game. The 3-0 score is not indicative of what the game was like

Didn’t realize one game won you the Conn Smythe trophy…Quick was very good last game but has been at best average the rest of the playoffs. There’s no way he wins over the dominance of Doughty, clutchness of Williams, or all around great play of Kopitar.

      • lordfletcher - Jun 10, 2014 at 6:01 PM

Williams is equally as “clutch” as Quick has been and last time I checked, Quick has been better than average at best. Has he let in more goals than expected, sure but has LA’s defense been as dominant as they could be … ??

Doughty wins based off of name but I think Gaborik should win it as he alone helped this team progress through more rounds than anyone else.

Its a crap shoot. Throw a dart to pick a winner. I tryly dislike the Conn Smythe anyhow, everyone plays for ‘the’ cup.

        cheers

I don’t have much of an argument against Doughty.

Doughty hands down. They don’t get by the Hawks without his play. Quick stood on his head last night but was downright awful in the WCF.

Depends. If its the reason why they are there at all. Doughty. If its the one reason why they will win. Quick

Williams or Carter. Kopi and Gabby have cooled just a bit lately while they’ve both been good throughout.

    Jeff Carter.

Most underrated player on that team.

Trebek: let’s go first to contestant # 1 for the first question …

Quickie has been MVP of this series. I’d be shocked if he didn’t get it.

    • hawkeedawg - Jun 10, 2014 at 10:12 PM

Quick wouldn’t be playing in this series if not for the aforementioned Conn Smythe candidates. So no, you don’t get the Conn Smythe for being good in one series, it is for the most consistent through 4 series that should win it.

Maybe, but the media gets to decide it. Not you or me.
