Video: Quick, Richards help Kings take commanding 3-0 lead

Jun 9, 2014, 10:06 PM EST

The Los Angeles Kings are one period away from owning a 3-0 series lead against the New York Rangers in the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, even if the level of play has been much closer than the most obvious numbers might indicate.

In Game 3, it’s all been about getting some positive bounces and some positively brilliant play from Jonathan Quick. He added to his collection of great saves in this game with a beauty of a save in the second period:

Jeff Carter‘s 1-0 tally with less than a second remaining could be argued as symbolic of this game, yet there’s also Mike Richards punching this goal in after another bounce went the Kings’ way:

The Kings hold a towering 3-0 lead going into the third period. The Rangers will need a blistering 20 minutes to even have a chance of extending this game and avoiding a 3-0 series deficit. It doesn’t look like Quick is going to yield in this contest, though.

Precisely. Other than the lucky goals and the lucky saves, the Rangers would be totally winning. The important thing to focus on here is just how well the Rangers played for the first 19:59.2, and not on the fact that they haven’t scored in 90 minutes.

Luckily, the games decided by the score, not how they get there. Go Kings Go!

Sarcasm, right? Kings have cut down on the turnovers due to forechecking pressure and when the Rangers have gotten chances Quick has done a great job of emulating his ’12 self. Kings could have another goal or two if not for some luck near the N.Y. net.

The Kings have been the blue collar, hard-working team on the ice at MSG in this game. Just hoping Quickie gets his well-deserved shutout.

3-0 victory, 3-0 lead in series. GKG! Quick’s first pro game in MSG is a shutout. Sweet.

Yep, he got it. :) Isn’t it wonderful to have a goalie and team that can hold a two goal lead?

Must be nice to have a goalie that isn’t overrated and has his stats inflated by a coach’s system …

It’s a shame that Cam Talbot is injured. Rangers could use him.

LA Kings have looked like they’re playing with their food all series.

If only Henry’s pads were bigger, this would be a series.

Great game kings! Way to show up.

If only that Dwight king goal was overruled right rangers fans? Way to focus on what matters!

    Gkg

3 goals on 15 shots, Rangers 0-6 on the PP. Fugly for the Ranger fans out there.

Can’t wait for another post game interview where Henry blames the outcome of a game like this on his teammates …

      • 19to77 - Jun 10, 2014 at 2:04 AM

“You try to stay positive right now, but it’s tough,” said Lundqvist. “It’s really tough. I think we’re doing a lot of good things but when you look at the goals, you know, we put two in our net and just a tough play on the third one.”

This just in, St. Louis and Girardi on IR due to mysteriously stabbed backs.

      • idonthavethebloodyoucrave - Jun 10, 2014 at 8:26 AM

A can cite at least a few different interviews from this season alone where he blames losses on the lack of goal scoring after giving up some really weak goals.

The Torts era was filled with em.

Don’t have to convince me. He’s done that for years.

  5. Professor Fate - Jun 9, 2014 at 10:59 PM

Best assist men on Kings’ goals were Rangers. All three goals came from bounces/re-directions off of Ranger players.

The ‘best’ of the best ! … today, tomorrow and forever ! :)
