Video: EA shares NHL ’15 trailer, release date

Jun 9, 2014, 7:35 PM EDT

While the hockey world is fixated on the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, video game enthusiasts bask in the hype of the E3 2014. That event featured the unveiling of a trailer for “NHL 15,” EA Sports’ jump to the Xbox One and Playstation 4 in the latest iteration of the series.

Beyond the fantastic song and some dramatic staging, the biggest takeaway is just how smooth everything looks:

“NHL 15” will release in North America on Sept. 9 and Europe on Sept. 14. Along with being on those next-generation consoles, the game will also release on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. It will roll out some new features, including “authentic arenas.”

The game’s cover star will be unveiled at the 2014 NHL Awards.

For all the talk of revolutionary graphical improvements, 13 years later the trailer graphics look pretty darn similar.

I think everything looks amazing (graphics, player movement, etc.) except the jerseys. They make the players look fat. (See Datsyuk at 0:22).

Always excited when a new NHL game is coming out. Can’t wait!

I would watch the trailer, but as usual there is just a blank white spot where the video should be. Well done as always NBC Sports.

I was really looking forward to NHL on next-gen, and then they decided to completely ruin it with Emrick and Olzcyk. I wonder if they will kiss Crosby’s a$$ like they do in real life.

Mr shantz is a perfect name for you since you seem to have a sh!tty attitude

Claudegirwho is a perfect name for you since you seem to be happy about hearing these guys love on Crosby even more. I’d actually prefer the play by play guys from the Pittsburgh home network. I just hate those two no matter what game they’re calling.

Yeah I know it’s just crazy that the NHL would try and market their top stars just like if you play the flyers your gonna hear about giroux and so on for all the teams

The Rangers are even crashing goalies in this game preview. I guess if it’s in the game…

    Lol @ rgleds

WoW! I can’t wait until I see those robotic cheesy goals (against the computer, – with the rap around the net goal) in NHL 15, like they already to in NHL 14. Also can’t wait until NHL 15 because of how on faceoffs you can’t ever win more than 2 or 3 in a game.

You must be awful if you can’t win more than a couple draws…Stick to Atari

Or how the jerseys magically stretch and grow when they get hit…this looks like crap.

    • lordfletcher - Jun 10, 2014 at 7:42 AM

you are right. It’s pure crap. Why would anyone even spend money on this. I mean its not like its the best hockey game that is available to consoles or CPU.

man, I would sure feel dumb buying this. Whew, thanks.

      • pjblake2redwings - Jun 10, 2014 at 8:42 AM

its the only hockey game avalible. i would rather have 2k sports back

  10. iwt5007 - Jun 10, 2014 at 9:01 AM

Should be a solid buy…I think Doc Emrick’s “Scoooorrrreeee” and “Drrrrivvveeee” will get annoying after a few games…bright side is that there is no Pierre McGuire so that game can be played with volume

    • westinpat - Jun 10, 2014 at 11:47 AM

Shame you can’t pick your announcer from a selection of five or six. Emrick gets on my nerves every game he announces.

  11. source7769 - Jun 10, 2014 at 10:06 AM

why do people always fall for these trailers they always show the cut scenes and never the actual game being played

  12. dglelite - Jun 10, 2014 at 11:54 AM

you want to take the game to the next level…

1st) Make the game better and more realistic…it has gotten better over the years but still has a ways to go.

2nd) Make this is true TV type of event. Get every announcer that the NHL teams employ. Get them to do voice overs. The home team will always be the announcing team. That way you dont get the repetition that always plagues the game after a while. Also, use the graphics the home team would use for the game as well. And if it is determined to the game of the night (rivalry night or Satruday afternoon national game) you get the NBC crew. Spice it up! Yes it would cost more to do but it would bring a level of realism never seen before.

Make it for the PC and then you would see what a game should be like!
