Regehr (knee) is probable for Game 2

Los Angeles Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr felt “ready to go” for the opening game of the Stanley Cup Final, but coach Darryl Sutter decided to give him some more time to recover.

Sutter thinks Regehr is “probably” healthy enough to return on Saturday though, per the Bergen Record’s Tom Gulitti.

The 34-year-old blueliner hasn’t played since May 3 due to a knee injury. He had two assists in eight playoff games and was averaging 17:11 minutes per contest before he ended up on the sidelines.

The Kings acquired him from Buffalo in April 2013, which makes him one of the few players on the team that didn’t previously win the Cup with Los Angeles in 2012. Regehr came close to winning it all in 2004 when his Calgary Flames lost in seven games to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Final.

He skated on the Kings’ fourth pairing during today’s practice, so it’s not clear who will be taken out of the lineup to make room for him. The Kings have been using Matt Greene sparingly though.
